Even as the lifeless swordswoman laid there in slowly spreading a pool of crimson, her breathing didn’t stop. Her heart refused to fall silent. She still clung to the last threads of life. Was it the result of rigorous training? The unyielding sense of duty? Or simply being stubborn to a fault? Well, no matter... Though she teetered on the brink of eternity, she refused to take the final step. That’s all that mattered right now.
On the flip side of that coin, the villain had found her second wind. The wounds she had received from the swordswoman were no longer bleeding. None of the injuries seemed to slow her down. In fact, she seemed to be doing better by the moment. It was the wonderful rush of killing, the adrenaline surging through her veins... Through all the wounds and bleeding... She felt alive. Eyes shining with peculiar madness, she kept pressing the assault. Anton was forced to deal with both assassins for now. Luckily, a beloved captain was never alone. Two of his closest subordinates were ready to sacrifice their lives. And the third simply... needed a moment to recover. Just a little longer...

Besides, leaving her around to take pot shots at her would be problematic. "Oh screw this," she growled, turning to charge towards Celia. Celia whipped out a couple of derringers, opening fire. The assassin spun to avoid the blow, before throwing her bat right at Celia. The weapon caught Celia right in the face, a spurt of blood coming from her nose as she cried in pain. [Celia's MT - miss] [Bad Girl's LT - hit]
Bad Girl gave a demented giggle as she caught her bat, and swung, aiming for Celia's head. Celia recovered from her daze just in time to duck underneath the bat, opening fire with another derringer and catching Bad Girl in the other shoulder. [Bad Girl's LT - miss] [Celia's UT - hit] Bad Girl grunted, lashing out with a foot and catching Celia in the stomach, knocking her to the ground. [Bad Girl's UT - hit]
Meanwhile, Anton and Julius was focusing on Letz Shake. The wild haired assassin had his attention fully on Anton as his machine started to power up again, getting ready to fire. Anton wasn't going to allow it to fire. Dashing around the machine, he swung out a leg, catching Letz Shake and sending the man spinning into the machine. The large silo buckled under the hit, its power temporarily lost. [Letz Shake's MT - miss] [Pirrohuette - MT - hit]
Letz Shake let out a growl as he tried to recover from the blow. "Zis is getting rediculous!" he growled, gripping his guitar and starting to charge. Julius moved to intercept, but the assassin leaped over him, delivering a kick to his head before continuing. [Julius' MT - miss] [Letz Shake's UT - hit] Anton lashed out, trying to kick him, only for Letz Shake to veer to the side, swinging his guitar and hitting Anton at the side of the head. [Snap Kick - LT - miss] [Letz Shake's LT - hit]
Letz Shake wasn't done. With a loud yell, he brought his guitar up, delivering a downward strike right onto Anton's head, the instrument cracking under the blow. Anton was brought down to one knee, slightly dazed, his body trembling. Without thinking, Anton lashed out, his leg catching Letz Shake in the side. The blow wasn't as strong as it normally would be, but it sent a strange shock through his body. [Letz Shake's LT - hit] [Treble Kick - LT - hit]
As Anton took a step back, his eyes caught sight of Celia on the ground, Bad Girl standing over her with a bat in hand. Anton's eyes widened. He was not going to allow another of his crewmembers to fall! Letz Shake suddenly struck him in the side, causing him to stumble, before Anton suddenly spun and kicked him in the sternum. [Letz Shake's UT - hit] [Anton's UT - hit] Letz Shake stumbled and was about to counter before a surprise punch from Julius caused him to stumble again, allowing Anton to break off. It was no exaggeration to say the old reaper had all the time in the world. So when the fallen woman refused to yield in spite of the grim injury, Death shrugged and went about its day. Lunch break was fast approaching and there were still many others to visit. What difference would one soul make anyway?

As the seconds ticked by, the crimson flow slowed down. Yumiko's breathing grew steadier. Slowly but surely the sounds of the raging battle pierced through the fog. Though in the depths of darkness they felt so distant, they still stirred something within her. A sense of undying duty. Every shout, gunshot and clash of blades played a familiar melody through her head. Yes... She remembered this song... How used to she was playing it herself... And how intensely she disliked every note of it. Finally, there was the tiniest twitch. Just a fingertip tapping against the dirt...

The face that he had hit her in the back, or the fact his blade no doubt ruined the back of her dress. "You fucker!" she yelled, swinging her bat at Anton, only for the grasshopper to dodge to the side. [Bad Girl's LT - miss] The furious assassin was ready to swing another shot at Anton, before a couple of bullets whizzed past her, one of them catching her back and knocking it out of her hands. [Bad Girl's LT - miss] [Celia's MT - miss] Bad Girl snarled, looking back at the battered Celia. Seriously, this bitch just will. not. stop!
Anton was about to launch an attack from behind when suddenly something caught him in the leg, tripping him up. Letz Shake had gotten behind him and had caught him with his guitar. [Letz Shake's UT - hit] "Don't forget about me!" he laughed, before delivering a powerful, upward swing, sending Anton flying upwards. [Letz Shake's LT - hit] Anton spun through the air, trying to right himself up, just in time to notice the man's machine aiming right at him.
Which then proceeded to fire. A loud boom shook the area as he was hit in the air. [Letz Shake's MT - hit] "Anton!" Celia yelled out, watching in shock as Anton's body was thrown through the air. Bad Girl, seeing the target taking some serious hits, let out a mad giggle as she leaped into the air, delivering a kick at Anton to send him flying right into Celia. [Bad Girl's UT - hit] [Bad Girl's UT - hit]
Celia cried out as Anton bounced along the ground before sliding to a stop. Anton let out a pained groan, bleeding badly as he tried to climb to his feet. Bad Girl couldn't help but laugh. "Ha! Look at him! The little bug's barely able to stand. And this was the thing that gave the others so much trouble. What a bunch of shits!" The two assassin's laughed as Anton tried to remain on his feet, his hard gaze on the pair of them.
Suddenly, a form shot past Letz Shake and charged towards Anton. It was Julius! Before anyone could react, the doctor pulled out a set of bandages, and faster than anyone could perceive, he had quickly wrapped up the marine from head to toe. "Just some quick field medical work si-!" He didn't get to finish his sentance as a blast from Letz Shake's guitar sent Julius sprawling. [Julius' MT - 56 HP healed] [Letz Shake's UT - hit] "Vell, if you're going to simply tie him in place," Letz Shake chuckled as he prepared an attack, "Who am I to refuse?" With a stroke of his guitar, a blast of sonic energy shot towards Anton, seemingly striking the marine, and sending torn bandages and exoskeleton everywhere.
However, Anton wasn't there. The marine had shot upwards, leaving the shed skin behind, and his body renewed. [Letz Shake's LT - miss] [Shed Skin - LT - 44 HP healed]
"What!?" Letz Shake spluttered, watching the marine in the air. Anton quickly twisted himself to aim his legs towards Letz Shake's massive machine. There was a sharp sound, and a blast of compressed sonic energy shot towards the machine, clipping it in the side and causing it to spin out, crashing into the wall. [Sonic Canon - HT - hit (graze)] Anton suddenly kicked himself through the air, shooting right towards Letz Shake, twisting in mid air to deliver a sharp kick to the assassin's mid section [Anton's UT - hit]
Letz Shake was sent spiralling back, coughing up blood as Anton backflipped through the air, landing directly behind Bad Girl. The blonde maniac spun around just in time for Anton to deliver a roundhouse kick to her head, sending the woman wheeling through the air and landing on the ground.
Anton's strength and body were renewed. It was time for round two of this fight!

The battered samurai rose back onto her feet. A small slab of silver fell from her robes, crushed beyond recognition. It bled sake. Little by little, life returned to the fallen fighter. And it brought a gift with it. Pain. Lots and lots of pain. Her injuries throbbed with every heartbeat. Merely breathing was an agonizing task. She gritted her teeth and steeled her will. Not here, not yet... Her duty was not complete before her master was safe.
Yumiko’s hazy gaze trailed across the yard, stopping briefly on the sword she had dropped. Painful flashes of the fight flooded her mind. She had been fighting and... Her brow furrowed as she directed her attention onto the chaos further away. Captain... Her captain was in danger. She gathered a deep breath and fearlessly cast aside the element of surprise. “Villain! Do not think we are done here!” Meanwhile, the assassin being addressed sighed deeply. “Oh... my... god...” She was beginning to understand why the others had struggled with this dumbass. Yumiko crossed her arms and focused deeply, fighting through the pain. Her fangs and nails started growing...
“Come! I shall show thee a monster...”
However, the assassin was having none of it. “Oh shut up already!” Before the Marine could properly transform, Bad Girl rushed to close the distance. Yumiko was forced to grab her sword, still in its sheath, to have any hope of defending herself. “I know your game. You’re gonna turn into some freaky critter like your boss over there, right?” Obviously this wasn’t the first time the professional killer had faced a Zoan. “Well, good luck transforming when I’m beating your face in!” [LT][Tantrum] She unloaded a massive series of swings with single-minded hatred. For what looked like a simple tantrum, the barrage of strikes was devastating.
The swordswoman could barely weather the blows and stay on her feet. Upon finding the slightest of openings, she swung her weapon twice. [MT][Weasel's Fangs] Two blunt blasts of wind staggered the foe. It widened the gap, allowing the samurai to land a critical jab against the foe. [UT] Unfortunately she was too winded to deal much damage anymore. If anything, it only annoyed the assassin, who responded with another haphazard swing of the bat. [UT] It bashed against the sword hard enough to hurt the marine through her guard. She barely managed to fire off another wind blast, clipping the foe on the shoulder. [LT][Weasel's Tail] The winds around her swirled in an attempt to launch the foe away. [LT][Gale Warning] ...But she just couldn’t muster enough strength
Bad Girl stomped forward and brought her bat down without mercy. “Just stay down already!” [LT][Stay Down] The wounded marine buckled beneath the weight of the blow. She collapsed onto her knees, painting the ground crimson with her coughing. And yet... She still stubbornly clung to life. Even as raspy breaths clawed at her lungs, even as her knees trembled like leaves in the wind, she lifted her weapon one more time. “Never...” She refused to give in to the pain. For the sake of her master, she had to hang in there.

Anton was relieved to see her still alive, but seeing Bad Girl charging to resume the fight... "Celia, Julius." Anton ordered, "Back up Yumiko. I'll take it from here." Sure, Yumiko would rather deal with Bad Girl herself. Samurai honour and all that. But Anton was not going to allow her to die on his watch. Celia and Julius nodded, breaking off to go after the insane woman with the bat.
Anton turned his attention back towards Letz Shake, who was caughing up some blood underneath his scarf. The machine began to whine, starting to charge up. "Handle me?" he growled, "You'll handle me? Vell, let's see how you handle zis!" He fired off a blast right at Anton, intent on knocking him down while his machine charged.
Anton seemed to bend out of the way as the attack missed [Letz Shake's UT - miss] Letz Shake paused. There was...something about the marine now. Something different. Sure, the marine was fighting fit again, but there was something else now. Something that wasn't there before. [Fast Hopping - LT - active] [Kenbunshoku Haki - active] [Bosushoku Haki - active]
Anton slowly stood upright, eyes locked on Letz Shake.
And then, the marine captain moved faster than Letz Shake could react. Anton closed in, delivering a sharp, painful kick right into the assassin's sternum. The air was torn from Letz Shake's lungs as he was sent flying back, slamming into his machine and creating a dent in its side. [Anton's UT - hit] Letz Shake groaned in pain, caughing and spluttering as he tried to regain his senses. Then he looked upward, to see Anton coming down from on high, sword held over his head, ready to strike, Letz Shake's machine rumbled loudly, getting ready to fire.
Anton's blade came down, slicing clean into the machine. Letz Shake's monstrous weapon shook, sparked, and then violently exploded. [Grand Strike - HT - hit] [Letz Shake's AoE - miss]
Meanwhile, Bad Girl was getting ready to bring her bat down on the samurai before her. She was going to make sure she crushed her skull this time! Suddenly, a series of gunshots rang out, and Bad Girl shrieked out in pain as numerous bullets crashed into her. Celia was firing Derringer after derringer right at her. [Celia's MT - hit] [Celia's UT - hit] Julius charge in close, darting towards her when the gunfire stopped, delivering a harsh punch to Bad Girl's face, before delivering a sharp kick to her sternum, sending her flying back into rubble. [Juliu's UT - hit] [Julius' MT - hit]
Julius looked over at the battered Yumiko. "we're always here for you Miss Yumiko. This crew looks after itself." It was at that point that Letz Shake's machine exploded, a piece of shrapnel flying through the air and catching Julius in the shoulder, sending a small spray of blood. [Letz Shake's UT - hit] "Julius!" Celia yelled out in concern, as the doctor gripped his bleeding shoulder. "I'll...be fine," he grunted through clenched teeth, "Just a piece of shrapnel, nothing more."
Suddenly, Bad Girl burst out of the rubble, howling like a crazed animal. Eyes filled with madness and rage, she charged straight towards the two marines, swinging and catching Julius in the face with her bat, before diving over and striking Celia in the side. [Bad Girl's UT - hit] [Bad Girl's UT - hit]
Through her rage, her eyes fell on Anton. Bad Girl howled as she charged towards him. "YOU DAMN FUCKING BUG!" she shrieked, swinging her bat and catching Anton in the face, following it up with blow after blow. WHY. WONT. YOU. JUST. FUCKING. DIE!?!?!?" Her last blow was almost enough to break her bat. [Bad Girl's LT - hit] [Bad Girls' LT - hit] [Bad Girl's UT - hit]

She welcomed it with open arms. Embraced it even. Rather, she stared in wide-eyed shock as her comrades stained their honor in order to protect her life. They... sacrificed something irreplaceable to save a mere tool... The kind act clashed against the rigid beliefs like a hammer against a mirror. Shards went flying inside her mind. She was too stunned to say anything back. However... If she did survive this, they would be having a serious conversation about the importance of honor.
Yumiko struggled back onto her feet one more time. One last time. With a deep breath, she steadied her trembling legs. “Villain! How dare thou turn thy weapon against mine master when I still stand?” She moved the blade to her side, as if preparing to draw it. “Thy wretched behaviour is a reflection of the cruelty of this world. I shall not stand idly!” In a single, swift motion she swung the blade and the winds followed the command. A blunt gust aimed to strike the rampaging assassin. [LT][Sickle Wind] She followed up by launching her towards the foe as well, ready to strike her down. [LT][Storm Chaser] This was it! The moment of truth!
...Sadly, it was not meant to be.
Bad Girl twirled around, completely avoiding both attacks. Only the tip of the sheathed sword barely brushed her. [UT] “I don’t fucking think so!” Using the same momentum, she smacked the leaping swordswoman out of the air. [LT][Outrage] The impact alone was enough to knock the marine’s lights out. She hit the ground with an awkward, limp tumble. Eyes gleaming with merciless madness, the bloodied assassin marched up to the lifeless samurai. She swung her cracked bat with all the pent up fury she could muster. [UT] Again, again and again... “Die, die, DIE!” [LT][Last Resort] She really was making good of her original threat...

Fri Feb 07, 2020 11:37 amThe loud crack of Bad Girls' bat, delivering the painful blow to Yumiko seemed to hang in the air, as Anton watched Yumiko collapse to the ground, unconscious once again. The deranged assassin bringing her bat down on her again and again in a murderous frenzy. Yumiko had brought herself out here to protect him, out of loyalty. She had pulled herself out of unconsciousness just to keep fighting, and now this deranged woman was going to murder her. Celia and Julius as well were battered and bleeding. All of them were out here, all because of him.
Anton's face twisted in anger. "No more..."
Anton began to tremble. The air around him trembling and shaking with him. The ground around his feet shook. Bad Girl raised her bat up, about to bring it down to smash Yumiko's head, when something caused her to pause. Something in the air didn't just feel right. She looked towards Anton, a look of confusion on face. Meanwhile, Letz Shake was pulling himself out of the rubble, his eyes watching what was going on, unsure what was happening, but figured it was nothing good.
Celia, however, realized what was happening. "Julius!" The doctor nodded, figuring it out right away. "Understood!" He shot forward, ignoring the pain in his shoulder as he ran past the confused Bad Girl, grabbing the unconscious Yumiko, as he and Celia made a mad dash to get clear. "Hey! Where the fuck do you think you're going!?" Bad Girl shouted, before a loud rumbling stopped her. All eyes were on Anton, as everything began to shake.
And then, Anton let out a loud shriek of rage. And everything seemed to hit at once. The ground, already cracked and broken from the fight seemed to burst, and both Letz Shake and Bad Girl would feel a force hit them like a truck. It tore right through them, like it was threatening to rip them apart. Both assassins cried out, but their voices were drowned out by the din that shook the entire courtyard.
And then, almost instantly, the shaking stopped. The sound faded away, leaving a deafening silence around the courtyard. From the outskirts, from behind the rubble they had been taking cover behind, Celia and Julius peeked out, seeing both assassins on the ground unconscious, and Anton standing in the center of it all, panting heavily. [Trembling Din - AoE - hit]
"I...had no idea he was capable of that..." Julius murmured. Celia was equally stunned. "Neither did I..."
Anton, without a word, turned towards his crewmates and walked towards them. Julius and Celia fought back the urge to back away. "How is she?" Anton asked, looking down at the bloody Yumiko. Julius turned to look at the downed samurai. "Sh'es beat up pretty bad. She needs treatment right away." Anton nodded. "Then let's get her to sick bay. We don't have any time to lose!"
Celia and Julius nodded, carefully picking up the unconscious Yumiko as they cleared the area. Meanwhile, other marines, who had wisely kept away during the fighting, were now making a move to apprehend the downed assassins.

Sat Feb 08, 2020 5:51 amWith a cry of righteous rage, the fight was brought to an end. As the dust settled, a shroud of uneasy silence fell over the battlefield. Any men still able to move hurried to apprehend the suspects. Through the heroic efforts of Captain Anton La'croix, the day had been saved. The HQ would no doubt recognize his efforts. But the victory didn’t come free. Many had fallen, many more injured. Among them was the samurai who had gone against her superior’s direct order and paid a heavy price for it. She was utterly unresponsive as her comrades picked her from the ground. Lost in dreamless sleep, she wouldn’t stir... Until...
Much, much later...
In a quiet room at the back of the infirmary, the only sound was the clock ticking on the wall. Steadily. Relentlessly. Always in a rhythm. The wounded samurai finally stirred. Slowly her eyes opened. Well... One eye. The other had swollen shut. Her battered body was wrapped in so much bandage that she resembled a mummy from the distant summer islands. Several casts and supports tried to keep all the broken bones together. To say she had been in bad shape after the fight would've been quite an understatement. The frenzied assassin had beaten her into a bloody pulp. Both her silver flask and her favorite clothing were ruined beyond saving. Not that she could even afford to repair them. Despite all this though, the worst wound she had suffered was not physical.
Yumiko’s hollow gaze stared up at the ceiling. While her mind felt foggy, she unfortunately remembered enough. She had failed. Completely and utterly failed. Her dry, cracked lips parted with a soft whisper. “Thou saved my life... I offer thee my deepest gratitude...” She wasn’t sure if anyone was even listening, but she had to get this unbearable weight off of her chest before it crushed her heart. “But I beg of thee... Please... Please do not do it ever again...” Welling tears clouded her vision. A true samurai did not cry... But she couldn’t call herself a samurai. Not anymore. “A tool that cannot serve its master should be cast away...” Worse than useless, she was a hindrance to her master. A dead weight. Utterly unforgivable. Silently she swore that the moment she could hold a sword again, she would atone for this crime.

Slowly, Anton La'croix would move into view of her, having shifted back into his humanoid form. He hadn't been hit as badly as Yumiko, and thus had recovered fairly quickly from the fight. The marine captain looked down at the recovering Samurai with a warm smile. "You're a member of my crew, and as your captain, it's my duty to keep you all safe." His expression saddened a little, "Which is why I'm sorry you ended up like this. I shouldn't have allowed that lunatic to get as far as she did. I shouldn't have allowed any of them to hurt you, or the others." Indeed, all of this was because the assassins were after him. His crew were unfortunate victims caught in the crossfire.
"I tried to step down as captain, head out so I wouldn't put anymore people in danger. But, well, they wouldn't hear of it. We seemed to have made an impression on them when we took down the assassins." He gave a small, rueful chuckle. "So, once you're recovered, we're heading out from Loguetown. I think it's best if we do. If anymore do come, then we're not putting the town in danger, and I think it would be harder for them to find me."
He looked Yumiko right in the eye. "Which...brings me to this question. Would you still want to travel with us? I spoke with the higher ups, and after everything you've been through, it's only fair we give you the choice. With the bravery you've shown, I'm sure you can find a position anywhere you wish. You've seen what it'll be like serving under me. If you want to keep serving under me, I just want to know that it's your choice. Nobody will think less of you if you wish to be assigned elsewhere."
The thought of her being beaten bloody was a sight Anton did NOT want to see ever again. And if it meant having to let her go, then so be it. But it will be her choice.
